Inspired by the rich heritage, diverse regional techniques and colourful palette of Indian textiles, Sapling Textiles grew from a tiny seed of an idea. The idea was to create a space in which the non-sewer was inspired to sew, or craft, or create, or dream of an outlet for their creativity and for the experienced, perhaps nostalgic sewer to return to their craft with renewed vigor.
We are a small, family and ethically focused store in the heart of Maleny in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Our goal is to employ local people, source unique fabrics, soft-furnishings, bedding and accessories from India, ethically. We strive to support and showcase the work of local artisans and craftspeople and to provide a comprehensive range of haberdashery for the local sewing community.
We call this space Sapling Textiles because it is young but robust, flexible with a great deal of growing to do but firmly planted in our hope: to showcase Indian fabrics and textile traditions to an increasingly interested public. For those of us who are weary of mass produced, synthetic and often poorly made garments, Sapling Textiles offers customers the opportunity to buy 100% cotton, GOTS certified organic cotton, linen, silk, modal, velvet, and hand-embroidered crewel work by the metre and to make their own.
For many customers, the experience is aesthetic. There is the ability to see, touch and smell the fabrics adorning the walls. To rummage through little jars of hand-crafted buttons in ceramics, wood and polymer clay amidst other handmade treasures. We hope you like our range.
